Our philosophy is simple – there is no cure. While we agree “prevention is better than cure”, it is essential to realise that there is no cure in dentistry. The tooth lost through decay or gum disease is lost forever. It may be replaced with an artificial tooth, however a prosthetic leg is hardly a cure for the disease that caused it to be amputated in the first place. Not enough emphasis is placed on teaching in the dental office and this needs to be changed. Ask yourself the question – who taught me how to brush? But more importantly, who taught me how to floss? Too commonly, the answer to these questions is no one. How can one expect to maintain oral health without proper education and guidance to do so? Without such, the chance of needing costly, painful and invasive dental treatment only rapidly increases.
