She first started writing children’s music over 20 years ago, when her children were small. She says she had a ‘built in instant library for research’! Since then, she has performed to thousands of young children around the country & overseas. She now shares her music with parents and kids all around the world, whilst at the same time, travelling extensively presenting her hands-on, educational professional development training seminar ‘The Power of Music in Education’ to early childhood educators. A highly regarded ‘overnight’ sensation that only took 40 plus years!A Little History: She began singing professionally at the tender age of 16 in the wine bar scene in Sydney (I know….underage)! She worked as a ‘singing convict’ in Old Sydney Town & night time musical theatre and also became a regular performer for 4 years at the NSW Art Gallery’s ‘Sunday Afternoon for Families’ program. In these formable years she grew to understand the importance of connecting with her audience. At the Art Gallery too, she had to link her songs with the art around her, which in turn led her to understand the value of using music to ‘connect’ with children and their parents. At the same time, she studied acting at the ‘Sydney Acting School’ receiving her diploma in 1980, sing in front of Bob Dylan and Stevie Nicks & many times was support act for Tommy & Phil Emmanuel. In the early 90’s, Prue was looking for a change in direction and Prue Whoo was born. With 2 small children who gave her inspiration, she started writing, recording and performing her children’s songs. Prue’s passion is to write songs with substance, songs that could teach children about bullying, co-operation, healthy eating, recycling, alternate energy, cyber safety etc. Prue has now performed to thousands of preschool & kindergarten children around the country & is widely regarded as a leading force in children’s educational music.Prue Whoo’s program “Let’s Sing To Learn” which is all beautifully linked to learning outcomes for young children, is being used by preschools and early childhood centres all around the country (and other countries) to teach children syllabus outcomes using music in a fun, positive & engaging way. Music has been proven to enhance children’s learning, vocabulary, memory recall, self esteem and so much more. Prue is currently reshooting all her videos which will compliment her ‘Let’s Sing to Learn’ teaching program. Parents too are now realising that using music with values, is a fun way to open a dialogue with their children to teach valuable life skill lessons. Prue’s songs are used widely in this country and now many countries overseas. Her popularity is growing at a massive rate, as the world wide web connects us all, more and more children will enjoy the benefits of learning through the power of music.
